About the Women and Literacy Special Collection

Materials and websites in the Women and Literacy special collection have been selected with the goal that the collection be comprehensive and useful to diverse audiences: adult learners, literacy practitioners, program administrators, researchers, and all individuals with an interest in women and literacy.

The information and links on this site are provided for your convenience. All the information and sites were included based on meeting selection criteria. We have tried to provide as much information about the sites as possible.

For more information on our selection criteria and a list of our Core Knowledge Group (CKG) members please click here.

There are many specific concerns for woman and literacy. We have found two articles outlining some of these issues. We thought they might be of interest to users of this special collection.

Women and Literacy: by Daphne Greenberg
http://www.litwomen.org/Research/Greenberg.html
This is a brief article written by Daphne Greenberg summarizing some of the issues important to a discussion of women and literacy. It was posted in August of 2002 to the nifl-womenlit discussion list and can be found in its archives (http://www.nifl.gov/nifl-womenlit/2002/0407.html).

Women, Work, and Literacy. ERIC Digest No. 92.: http://www.ed.gov/databases/ERIC_Digests/ed312456.html
From the introduction: “This ERIC Digest, based on publications of Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW), portrays the extent of the problem of illiteracy among women, looks at the changing work force and its literacy needs, and describes a program model developed by WOW to address this issue.”
